The NEGATIVES: it gets unstable ad may even topple over if you use it for larger SLRs with heavy lens (longer than 200mm or so), with the twist-type lock and 4 retractable leg joints per leg, it takes a long time to set up (the twist-lock is also less secure than the flip-lock).Overall, great for smaller cameras and to pack on trips, not good for larger cameras. I've owned the SLIK compact XL tripod for 4 years. The PLUSES: it is versatile, compact (under 15 inches long), fairly lightweight (fits into my carry-on luggage) and stable for smaller cameras (point&shoot digital cameras, and smaller SLRs with short (and lightweight) lens).
If you are taller then you may be dissapointed in the height fully extended. I have been pleased overall with lightness and versatility. It really is very light.
This is a very handy travel tripod.Lightweight and compact, it is easy to carry.I wish it would extend a little taller, but otherwise, great.
Nice size when compacted. Will not be used much because of this. Is about what I expected for the money. Fully extended it is too short for someone 6'1" tall. Takes too much time to set up full extension.
Slik did make a more compact tripod that folds to about 9 inches in length, which I find to be more convenient, but that tripod appears to no longer be available. This is a well-built and sturdy tripod. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that when folded it is a little longer (15 inches) than I would prefer.
